Youth RE Educator

Amarillo Unitarian Universalist Fellowship

Job title: Nursery/Preschool Educator; Elementary/Intermediate Educator; Junior High/High

School Educator

Position: 9:30 AM to 12:30 PM on Sundays in the classroom; Office time available up to 1 hr

Nursery/Preschool, up to 1.5 hours Elementary/Intermediate, and up to 2 hours Junior

High/High School. Additional hours for quarterly meetings and annual trainings. Occasional

opportunity to provide childcare at AUUF meetings and functions, to be scheduled in advance

on weekends and evenings.

Education/Experience: Experience with children, adolescents, and their families. The Youth

RE Educator must be willing to utilize UUA curriculum in the classroom under the direction of

the Coordinator of Religious Education (CRE) and work with all members of the RE Program.

Role: The Youth RE Educator must strive to create a safe and loving environment for all young

members and friends of the Amarillo UU Fellowship. The educator is to stay with the youth until

all have been picked up by their parents, and assist in keeping the classroom clean and

organized. The educator should be available to help with all youth in the RE Program as


Working Conditions/Environment: The Religious Education program is conducted on Sunday

mornings in the classrooms of the AUUF. Attendance most Sundays is required. The Youth RE

Educator may conduct business (telephone, paperwork, etc.) from the church office or from

home as appropriate. The Youth RE Educator will also attend meetings with the RE Committee

and CRE as directed. Meetings are generally held in the church building on evenings and


Description of Duties:

● Maintain CPR/BLS and First Aid certification

● Attend all trainings and meetings as directed by CRE

● Be punctual and reliable in attending services and meetings

○ If the Educator is unable to work due to illness, he/she will contact the CRE as

soon as possible so a substitute can be found. If he/she has a conflict on a

Sunday, he/she will contact the CRE with at least two week’s notice.

● Teach UUA curriculum each Sunday

● Maintain communication with CRE and other educators

● Clean, sanitize, and organize the classroom

● Monitor youth inside the classroom and outside on the playground

● Abide by all policies and procedures of the RE Program and AUUF
